Cowlin Construction

The firm of William Cowlin & Son Limited was founded in Bristol in 1834, and formed into a Private Limited Company in 1924. The change of name to Cowlin Construction Limited was formalised in 1997.

The company remained in private ownership, managed and owned by the working directors, until August 2007 when it was acquired by the UK’s largest contractor, Balfour Beatty. Reflecting the strength of the Cowlin name and culture, the Company continues to operate as Cowlin Construction Limited.

Operating from a network of regional offices, the company undertakes work throughout the South West and Central England and Wales, providing a comprehensive and flexible service geared to producing outstanding value. The company has a wealth of experience across several sectors, including education, healthcare, leisure, residential, commercial and industrial. We are proud of our success in achieving the highest professional standards, evidenced by our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditations, OHSAS 18001 accreditation, Chartered Builder Status and winning the 2009 RoSPA President's Award for Occupational Health & Safety given to those companies with 10 or more consecutive RoSPA Gold Awards.

We are equally committed to traditional, design and build and partnering contracts, with an increasing number of framework agreements. We have also through the support of our parent company, become active in national government inspired procurement routes such as Building Schools For The Future, National Academy Framework, Procure 21 and PFI. With a workforce of approximately 400 employees, our regionally based teams provide local knowledge and experience committed to meeting the needs of our Clients.
