Cowlin Hand Over 1,260 Student Accommodation Rooms

Cowlin Construction Limited have successfully completed two key student accommodation developments in Exeter and Bangor, equating to 1,260 student rooms, on behalf of their clients; UNITE Group and Grŵp Gwalia Cyf in time for the new academic year.

UNITE Group’s latest development in Exeter, Exeter Trust House, began onsite in August 2008 and involved the demolition of an existing building and the construction of 124 student bedrooms.  The accommodation is comprised of two blocks, of three and six storeys, providing self-contained studio apartments and single en-suite study bedrooms with communal living room/ kitchen areas. The project was handed over, on programme, this September.

In association with Tai Cartrefi, the student accommodation arm of Grŵp Gwalia Cyf, Cowlin started work on the 11 block development at Bangor University in June 2006 and, having successfully handed over the first two phases in time for the 2008 intake, and despite having to work around over 60 different tree protection zones, completed the final phase of the project on time this September.

David Harris, Cowlin Divisional Managing Director, told us: “We are pleased to handover these two quality projects on time and to budget for two of our well respected and established repeat clients. It is through our collaborative and team working approach with our clients that successful completions are achieved.”

The successful handover of these projects further cements Cowlin Construction’s position in the student accommodation marketplace, where they continue to perform and win work.  Cowlin are currently working on projects for Domain in Winchester and, the recently awarded, £77million UPP scheme at University of Exeter and have already completed schemes in Newport, Swansea, Plymouth, Cardiff and Aberystwyth.
