Successful Completion of John Foster's Almshouse, Bristol Cowlin recently handed over the John Foster’s Almshouse project for Bristol Charities in North Bristol; we were pleased to complete this £3million project within the planned budget and programme.Replacing an original 15th Century building in the centre of Bristol, the new Almshouse incorporates the construction of a three storey building, containing 18 self-contained sheltered accommodation flats with the new ‘John Milton Clinic’ for the Bristol Primary Care Trust on part of the ground floor, plus associated external works. The accommodation has been specifically designed for the needs of older people and includes comprehensive wheelchair access and modern technology systems for communications, personal safety and security. The new building has also been designed to include energy saving technologies and is of traditional construction, using sustainable materials. Cowlin worked with architects Alec French Partnership to complete the project, which adds to our portfolio of several care homes and facilities, including the Children’s Hospice at Charlton Farm in Bristol, The Shelbourne Senior Living in the New Forest and the Dunwood Manor nursing home, near Romsey.
