New School and Respite Care Centre is Under Construction in Ely
Cowlin Construction began work recently to build a new special needs school in Ely. Replacing the existing Ty Gwyn School in Penylan, the new school will accommodate 150 disabled pupils aged 3 to 19. The project will not only provide state-of-the-art facilities, including hydrotherapy, soft play and sensory rooms, but also a new respite centre. This extra facility will give support to the families of the children as well as offering comfortable accommodation for the children themselves. Cowlin Construction Managing Director, David Harris, commented: “The new Ty Gwyn School will enable the teachers and carers to carry on their exceptional work, in surroundings that are specifically built for the needs of the children. We are pleased to be involved and look forward to being able to hand over a facility that we know has been long anticipated and much needed.” Woodlands and Riverbank Schools are on the same site on Vincent Road, Ely, and the new building will form part of a campus where all the schools will be able to collaborate and share each others facilities. Although this is a traditional construction Cowlin’s specialist contractors will all be working to bring together a building that will ultimately make life easier for the children and teachers alike. The School is expected to be finished in time for the new school term in September 2010.
