Ground Breaking a Resounding Success

Bristol Christian Fellowship (BCF), Crossways Pre-school, Local Council members and contractors Cowlin Construction gathered for a traditional Ground Breaking Ceremony recently, on the site of the old Blackhorse Christian Fellowship Church.  Tim Groves, church leader, Ruth McConnell, youth leader and Joyce Lewis, one of the churches founding members, broke the ground together before enjoying a glass of bucks fizz with the gathered guests, to toast this long awaited and hard won project.

It is eleven years since the concept for this new building was first discussed, since then it has taken much campaigning and fundraising to bring the dream into reality.  This exciting community building, which will serve Mangotsfield and Emerson’s Green, and will be a state of the art facility, providing a venue for arts and music, as well as a place of worship.  The Resound centre houses an auditorium with theatre facilities and meeting rooms, offices, a café and a self-contained pre-school.

Rob Williams, Cowlin Construction Operations Director, commented: “The ambition for this project is to develop a real hub for the community and the enthusiasm shown by everyone involved is obvious.  Resound centre will provide unrivalled facilities to the local community and Cowlin will be working with the Bristol Christian Fellowship to ensure this is a community project from the start.  The event this week was a real celebration of the hard work it’s taken to get to this point and anticipation of what’s to come.”

Tim Groves, Resound Church Leader, said: “The new Resound centre will be home to Resound Church, the established Crossways pre-school, and a new community centre for the locality. We hope that Resound will not only become a meeting ground for our church members, but also the families who use Crossways pre-school, along with the residents of Mangotsfield and Emersons Green.”

Cathy Knowles, Project CoOrdinator for Resound, commented: “The event was a resounding success, and the enthusiasm for the building project from those attending was a real encouragement.  Attendees included representatives from the community, schools and parish council.”
