Phase 1

The academic building comprised teaching and administrative space, including a “learning atrium”, lecture theatre, music rooms and laboratories.

Phase 2

The residential building provides accommodation to 329 students, plus a “pavilion” style refectory and ancillary accommodation of a warden’s flat, FM offices, laundrette and cycle/surf store.

Phase 3

The Mary Newman building is an existing 1960’s concrete framed 12 storey building with concrete panelled elevations. The building was converted back to its original use to provide 157 student bedrooms and warden’s flat and communal facilities on the ground floor. The existing windows were replaced and new demountable GRP bathroom pods were installed in each bedroom.

The James Square Development has achieved a BREEAM “Very Good” rating.
