Project: Children’s Hospice South West, Charlton Farm, Wraxall, Bristol
Client: Children’s Hospice South West Value: £9.0m Contract: JCT 1998 Duration: 89 weeks Awards: Civic Trust Awards 2008 “Mention”
A project to refurbish Charlton Farm, together with associated barns and out-buildings, and a new building for accommodation, to form a Children’s Hospice, providing 8 care bedrooms with support facilities for families and staff.
The site is set in a rural location in historic parkland. All the farm buildings are listed. The new build works comprised an RC structure built into the embankment, together with a sedum roof and a timber framed first storey. The sympathetic use of local traditional building techniques was used throughout the project to help create a “tranquil” location for this hospice. |
