Project: New Mental Health Unit, Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant
Client: Pontypridd & NHS Trust Value: £8.3m Contract: JCT 1998 Local Authority Edition Duration: 100 weeks
The 3 storey steel framed, masonry clad building has contrasting brick, glass and rendered panels with an extensive louver installation around the upper plant room. The complex roof structures are a mix of Redland fibre cement slating and Trocal flat roofing with assorted large lantern lights, barrel vaulted areas and glazed arcade.
Internally, the unit is broken up into several highly serviced areas, many comprising bed-sit type units for short-term accommodation. Many hospital and other on-site treatment units and consultation areas complete the building, as well as administration and medical records. The central arcade running through the building is glazed at high level and uses link bridges for access across the second floor. In addition, there are extensive external works and car parking facilities. |
