Project: Second Rhondda Hospital, Llwynypia
Client: Pontypridd & Rhondda NHS Trust Value: £23m Contract: JCT 1998 Duration: On Site
The works encompass the construction of a new general hospital, approximately 13,500 sq m, which will deliver the re-provision of services currently provided at Llwynypia, in addition to other new developments. This will include 108 no. beds, Minor Injuries Department, Outpatients, Audiology, Physiotherapy, Radio-Diagnostics, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Occupational Health, Dietetics, Chiropody, Support Services and a Primary Care Unit.
A foundation of reinforced concrete ground beams supports a steel framework, with elevations of engineering brickwork and rendered panels around coated aluminium windows. The pitched roof areas of Cambrian slates compliment the two storey structure. Internally all areas are finished and fitted out to a high quality, with all areas fully serviced by up to date technologies and systems to provide an excellent health facility which will provide a light, comfortable and pleasant environment for both patients and staff. The project sustainability credentials are enhanced by a Bio Mass Boiler, which provides the primary heating and hot water source for the new facility and which is backed up gas fired boilers. |
