Project: Spike Island, Cumberland Rd, Bristol

Client: Spike Island Artspace Ltd

Value: £1.6m

Contract: JCT 1998 without quantities

Duration: 35 weeks

The project entailed refurbishing an RC framed tea-packing warehouse that has been used by the arts community in recent years as workshop space for individual artists.

The works created more permanent, robust workshop areas, gallery spaces featuring a 3-storey atrium, office spaces for “start-up” businesses, as well as administrative and welfare facilities and a public cafe.

The project was delivered in a number of phases, working in close proximity to the facility users; it therefore involved considerable challenges in working harmoniously with the many stakeholders in this interesting and unique arts workshop scheme.
