Project: George Landsbury Extra Care Centre
Client: Melin Homes Value: £5.1m Contract: JCT 2005 with Contractor’s Design Duration: March 2007 - July 2008 Client Brief: Construction of an Extra Care Centre for the elderly in Cwmbran, providing 23 one bedroom flats and 12 two bedroom flats, with communal and administrative facilities. Cowlin’s Solutions: The project comprised the construction of a part two storey, part three storey, building providing 35 flats in all. The construction is of timber frame with some steel elements and a glazed roof to the atrium area. Included is a communal area, dining area and main commercial kitchen. The scheme also provides physio facilities, and hairdresser salon. Externally, the landscape grounds include a bowls pitch and bowling green. The Outcome: The centre allows older people to access care and support according to their individual needs. Each flat includes a separate kitchen, lounge, bathroom and bedroom. Ground floor flats have French Doors onto patio areas within the landscaped grounds and the flats on the first floor have balconies. Internally the flats open onto a communal glazed atrium and street scene with paving, trees, patio seating and activity areas. |
