Project: Hotel Du Vin, Lewins Mead, Bristol
Client: The Alternative Hotel Company Value: £2.88m Contract: JCT 1980 With Quanities Duration: 45 weeks Awards: Bristol Civic Society Award
Works comprised the demolition of the original warehouse (The Sugar House was so named due to its history of being one of the earliest examples of a sugar refinery in Europe) and the construction of a luxurious hotel with a modern outlook, whilst maintaining the old warehouse/industrial ambience.
The Queen Anne section of the building was retained and refurbished, with new roofs throughout and extensive renovation taking place. In place of the warehouse, a new three storey, steel framed structure was erected behind the external walls and integrated in character and levels with the refurbished element. In recognition of the contribution made to the quality and appearance of the environment, this project received a commendation from the Bristol Civic Society. |
