Project: Sandy Balls Holiday Centre, Godshill, Fordingbridge
Client: Sandy Balls Estates Ltd Value: £4.5m Contract: Intermediate Form 1998 with Amendments Duration: 60 weeks (phased)
Sandy Balls Holiday Centre is in the heart of the New Forest and borders the River Avon. The phased refurbishment and extension of the facilities were carried out with the Holiday Centre remaining fully open and operational during the construction process. The greatest care was taken to segregate the construction and Holiday Centre operations to achieve an accident / incident free record and an important environmental and planning aspect was implementing plans to protect and retain the established trees.
The works comprised of demolition of the existing gift shop and construction of the Health Spa ‘Tempus’, new Welcome Building, Guest Services Building with Gift Shop and Cycle Hire Centre, part demolition of the Reception Building and construction of the new Bistro, plus the conversion of the existing restaurant into Management Offices. Extreme infrastructure and road works have allowed the heart of the Holiday Centre to be pedestrianised. The new buildings are generally of timber frame construction, on reinforced concrete foundations, with predominantly Larch cladding. There are various roof features such as Cedar shingles, slates, and a Green Sedum roof to the Welcome Building. Internal finishes reflect the timber frame structures. These buildings sit particularly well in the local surroundings. |
