Client Brief:

The contract comprised the construction of a modern six storey 74-bedroom hotel located on a prime city centre site, directly opposite the mainline train station for Cardiff.

Cowlin’s Solutions:

The site was particularly challenging, being triangular in shape with rail lines located within 1m of one site boundary and public footpaths and city centre roads forming the other two boundaries. This constricted site did not allow for the storage of materials and all deliveries had to be strictly timed. The taxi rank for Cardiff station was located directly outside our site entrance.

The Outcome:

The construction involved a six storey insitu concrete frame with natural limestone cladding and full height seamless glazing at the oriel end. The building consists of 74 bedrooms of two types, doubles and cabins (modern twins with bunk beds); each bedroom has an ensuite fully tiled wetroom. A Dining Room, Cafe/Bar and twin lifts were also provided.
